Russia - François Ozon's film Everything went well was released in Russian cinemas

Russia (bbabo.net), - The cunning old man decided to negotiate with God and leave this world a little earlier than he was measured. All because he does not want to live the kind of life that is "given to him" after a stroke. But he would not have been a cunning old man if he had not gutted the feelings - every last one - from his two daughters before he left.

One of them in Francois Ozon's film "Everything went well", which was released in Russian cinemas on January 20, is played by Sophie Marceau. The other is Geraldine Paya. The film is a participant in the competition at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

The film "Everything Went Well" evokes an order of magnitude less emotions than "Father" with Anthony Hopkins, although it touches, in fact, on fairly similar topics. While watching, you can even peck your nose - it goes for two and a half hours. However, it is impossible not to wake up to the phrase when the father (great performance by André Dussolier) asks his daughter:

"So how much do you say it costs to die? (they go to Switzerland, where euthanasia is allowed). 10 thousand euros? My God, how do poor people live? They can't afford it!"

"They die a natural death," the daughter says through gritted teeth.

In the role of mother and ex-wife in the film - Charlotte Rampling. At some point, the daughter asks her a question about why she did not leave her father. "I loved him," says the mother. Although it seems strange that such a depressed madam, played by Rampling, is at all familiar with this feeling. There is a flashback in the film that accurately characterizes her, when the heroine Marceau, still a little girl, watches her mother (and she is a sculptor by profession) and asks why all her works are gray. “Gray is also a color!” Mom replies.

There are a lot of medical and physiological details in the film, which has a rather detailed discussion of euthanasia. Not all of them can be experienced - in a figurative sense. By the end of the picture, the souls of all viewers are exhausted. However, the same can be said about the director - Ozon did his best, since the picture is in many ways closely connected with his biography, and it is clear that it is especially dear to him.

The film is an adaptation of the autobiographical novel of the same name by Emmanuelle Bernheim, co-author of such films by Ozon as "Pool", "Ricky", "Under the Sand", "5x2". At one time, Burnheim sent proofs of the novel Everything Went Well to Ozon and asked if he was interested in filming it. The director was touched by the story, but did not immediately start work. And he began to shoot because of the death of Bernheim. As he himself said, "her absence made me want to be with her again. Also, perhaps on some personal level, I felt that I was now more ready to plunge into her story." Ozone filled the picture with details that a person who is dedicated, in particular, to the history of their joint creativity with Emmanuelle, recognizes. A simple viewer will limit himself to the fact that at the level of intuition he will understand that the film speaks of a very, very personal thing.

Andre Dussolier, the leading actor, did not read Bernheim's book at all, despite the fact that his hero in the film bears this surname. However, a video shot by Emmanuelle herself, with the participation of the real Andre Bernheim, helped him get into character. In this video, he expresses his will to voluntarily die.

In general, the film shows how money can buy health, and how you can organize well and beautifully, having funds, even your own death. To sum it up with a grandiose philosophy, to understand relations with relatives - is also sometimes beautiful. What is left for the rest? Live your life, die your death. But to see what a planned departure from our world can be like. The lady doctor who actually deals with euthanasia is played by another world-famous movie star - Hanna Shigulla. And the image that she creates immediately becomes symbolic.

When viewing the picture "Everything went well", it is impossible not to remember another touching picture on the topic of euthanasia "Euphoria" (not to be confused with the series of the same name). It tells about how one sister accompanies another, terminally ill, to another world. The relationship of the sisters, one of which is played by Eva Green, and the other by Alicia Vikander, is far from perfect, but still at a fateful moment they will have to learn to understand each other.

In the film "Everything went well" Ozone is not limited to the story of a man and his family. He quite subtly raises the topic to another level. So, at the last moment, when the hero of Andre Dussolier - Andre Berngheim - is being taken to the euthanasia procedure, the film suddenly, in a rather unexpected perspective, raises the issue of nationalities and religions - their different attitudes towards death. This affects the feelings and beliefs of any viewer, however, after all the experiences, everything will also be fine with him. Despite the fact that two and a half hours of his life he will continuously think about the eternal.
