Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the family of actor Leonid Kuravlev.

The funeral telegram was published on the Kremlin website. Putin called Kuravlev an outstanding artist. “Leonid Vyacheslavovich Kuravlev was an outstanding artist and a truly popular favorite, who gave us a whole constellation of bright, original, masterfully played roles. He worked creatively, enthusiastically, conquered the audience with his extraordinary talent and charm, sincerity and generosity,” the head of state wrote, emphasizing that the bright and kind memory of Leonid Kuravlev will forever remain in the hearts of relatives, colleagues and friends.

Kuravlev died on January 30 at the age of 85 after a long illness.

The funeral service and funeral of the actor will be held in a closed format on February 1. The artist will be buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.

Earlier, director Nikita Mikhalkov called Leonid Kuravlev "a special phenomenon." According to him, the star of "Afoni" looked more like an enthusiastic spectator than an artist.
