Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed condolences to the family and friends of actress Zinaida Kiriyenko, who died on February 12.

“Accept deep, sincere condolences and words of support in this mournful hour. Zinaida Mikhailovna Kirienko was a wonderful actress, endowed with a bright talent and sincere generosity. Her departure is a great, irreparable loss for cinematography and national culture,” the telegram published on the Kremlin’s website says.

The head of state added that Kiriyenko's creative legacy and her unforgettable roles will remain forever.

On February 8, the artist was diagnosed with coronavirus. She became ill at home, she stopped responding to her relatives and responding to external stimuli, she lost consciousness for a short time. After hospitalization, she was also diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was in intensive care, where she suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and was partially paralyzed.

On February 12, the Union of Cinematographers announced that the actress had died. She was 88 years old.

Zinaida Kiriyenko became widely known after the role of Natalia in Sergei Gerasimov's film "Quiet Flows the Don", she also played in the films "The Fate of a Man", "Two Captains", "Cossacks" and other films.
