Russia - Sting sold the rights to Fragile, Englishman in New York and his other hits

Russia (bbabo.net), - A popular British musician has sold the rights to his entire catalog - songs and instrumental music (particularly symphonic and lute music) - to the international corporation Universal Music Group. This was announced on Thursday by the official website of the company.

At the same time, Sting fans have nothing to be afraid of: the singer and musician will still be able to perform all his songs whenever he wants. Only here the royalties from the re-release of albums, the release of collections of hits or the performance of these tracks in concert will now go to the company Universal Music Publishing Group, which is a division of the record corporation Universal Music Group.

The company said in a statement that "Universal Music Publishing Group, UMG's premier music publishing arm, announces the acquisition of Sting's music catalogue." This means that "the company acquires the rights to all solo projects of the artist, including his latest album The Bridge, as well as all the music recorded by him as part of The Police."

According to The New York Times, the deal could have amounted to $250 million (the parties to the agreement themselves do not name figures).

Of course it looks huge. But on the other hand, Sting is now one of the most covered artists, cover versions of his hits make stars from Julio Iglesias to trendy rappers and indie rockers. And sometimes reputable companies really want to use fragments of his recognizable music in their advertising campaigns.

So this amount will gradually "fight back", and Sting really has a lot of good hits, beloved by more than one generation of music lovers. In addition, the agreement also included songs that the musician wrote from 1976 to 1983 for the cult group The Police.

And most likely, in order to make a big profit, the UMPG company will hasten to re-release those glorious compositions, to the delight of many fans.

By the way

Before, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen have already sold their entire catalog of their songs. Rumor has it that a similar deal was offered to Elton John, but he refused.
