Russia - Scorpions told RG about the new album and concerts in Russia

Russia (bbabo.net), - Musicians of one of the most famous rock bands in the world are back again, now with the Rock Believer album - again melodic, powerful, guitar-like, like in the 80s, but with a relevant and creative the sound of our days. On the eve of the release, the permanent lead singer of the Scorpions, Klaus Meine, answered the questions of the browser.

The famous vocalist was found only in the studio, where he recorded 11 new songs. As always positive, friendly, smiling and an excellent storyteller, Herr Klaus sat in front of a huge studio console, which was no smaller than the staircase corridors in Moscow and New York high-rise buildings. Meine, who has been living most of the time in the United States for the past few years, "came" to the video interview wearing his favorite cap, the number of corners in which, it seems, is impossible to count. And in a stylish leather outfit, which we are so used to at Scorpions concerts. We will meet again soon, Maine promised. And he told in detail how the group spent these two years for the sake of returning to the stage and this new disc - Rock Believer.

Thanks for the return of the Scorpions. As before, after the holidays, again with fresh hits and sounds, as it was with Humanity albums. Hour I, and Sting in the Tail, and now ... Is that how you intended it, or did you have to change plans due to COVID-19?

Klaus Meine: Oh, the Sting in the Tail album (sees it in the hands of a reviewer. - Ed.)?! How long ago was that, almost 10 years ago. A lot has changed since then. Of course, before covid, we had other plans - a world tour was being prepared, but this misfortune happened, and many halls, stadiums, and borders turned out to be closed. And we decided to record a new album during quarantine, since we can’t perform. Yes, the streets of the cities were empty, people stopped even visiting each other, it was not fun, but we tried not to lose heart and use this difficult time for work.

For the first time, we could not rush anywhere for two whole years and again gathered in the studio of Rudolf Schenker (). At the same time, I was mainly in the USA, as was drummer Mickey, and bassist Pavel Monchivoda was at home in Poland. All steel - at Rudolph. And it was an amazing time: we were writing songs, talking about life, thinking about what will happen tomorrow, and at the same time recording our 19th studio album. I think he is the Scorpions have had in years. After all, Rock Believer is that hard rock, for which we have been loved since the 70-80s, and besides, it is also positive, open wide, extremely sincere.

Is there a message on the album: songs that are especially important for us to hear in the current "covid" time?

Klaus Meine: We didn't think about it specifically. But we know that when it's hard for people, they especially need good songs. And you know, we are convinced that the situation will improve soon, but for now we need to be persistent, take care of ourselves a little and take care of others - help us not to despair and endure difficult times. I hope that this mood is also in our songs, because we have them from the heart ().

You again sing high, sweepingly, you get magical overtones and impress with long notes, in which there is so much ardor, passion, fire, and sometimes extremely sincere tenderness. How do you manage to maintain such excellent vocal form, since you debuted on stage in the mid-60s?

Klaus Meine: If you are talking about fitness, then I do it quite moderately, although yes, I try not to break the regime () and train my voice. Recording the album was a great occasion for this. As for sports, I try to be restrained now. Yes, there was a time, played tennis, made some progress (in one of the interviews, Maine told the browser that he would not mind becoming a tennis coach if he finally left music). But a lot of injuries happen on the court - knees fly, muscles fail, dislocations, sprains happen ... But I can’t take risks for the sake of a scene where I have to move a lot and wind hundreds of meters ... Therefore, now I am just a fan.

Judging by the first singles by Peacemaker and Rock Believer, the new album is again attacking guitars, creative dashing melodies and spices from electronics and studio effects?

Klaus Meine: No, we don't have any electronics: only two guitars), bass and drums. But for music, this is quite enough for us.

But everyone expects beautiful and melodic ballads from Scorpions. This is how musical trends have developed - first of all, beautiful slow songs conquer the charts ... Does it upset you? And what do you like more yourself: ballads or your new hard melodic rock?Klaus Meine: I like both. In Rock Believer, of course, there are ballads. I know that in Russia they love beautiful and romantic melodious songs. Your viewers sing along wonderfully, they know how to do it, as if they were rehearsing it at home (). I remember how thousands of Russian fans sang Wind of Change with us, many drew hearts on pieces of paper and raised them above their heads, others brought flowers to the stage, souvenirs with the symbols of their cities, a lot of things - I can’t remember everything. But such an approach is very inspiring. After him, I want to write only the best songs again. And sing along with you. I know that if you sing along, then this is a sure sign that the song was a success!

Then tell us when you will come to Russia again?

Klaus Meine: Planned in September-October, just in time with our new album (its release is scheduled for February 25). But not everything depends only on us, unfortunately. After all, there are still quarantine restrictions in different countries, and it is not yet clear when it will be possible to arrive. This will be decided by lawyers, lawyers, doctors. We ourselves are ready almost even tomorrow.

Well, we will be waiting for you, already with a new album.

Klaus Meine: Thank you! ().
