Russia - A new horror film by Bekmambetov and Okko will be presented at the film market in Berlin

Russia (bbabo.net), - Multimedia platform Okko has announced that it is filming its first international project together with Timur Bekmambetov. In terms of genre, it will be a horror movie called The Drowned Man, in which the star of the TV series Gotham, Ben McKenzie, will play the main role. Pre-sales of the film began at the European Film Market EFM, which takes place as part of the Berlin Film Festival.

"Drowned Man" (in the English version - Bloat) is a Japanese horror (J-horror). Okko's partners in the project will be the Bazelevs studio by Timur Bekmambetov, the French film company Pulsar Content and the Japanese production company Flag Co., Ltd.

In one of the main roles - Bojana Novakovic, known for such films as "Tonya vs. Everyone", "Birds of Prey: The Amazing Story of Harley Quinn" and the series "Westworld". Filming for "The Drowned Man" has begun in New York and will soon continue in Japan.

The film revolves around the mysterious events that begin to happen to the youngest son of a military officer (Mackenzie) and his wife (Novakovic) after he nearly drowns in a local lake while on vacation in Japan.

The film was directed and written by Tokyo-based filmmaker Pablo Absento, whose debut horror short film "Shi" entered 51 overseas festivals, won 11 awards in the US and was honored by horror masters such as Guillermo del Toro and Eli Roth.

And, as you might have already guessed, "The Drowned Man" will be filmed in a screen-life format - the audience will follow the plot of the film by watching the screens of the devices used by the main characters. Bazelevs' previous screenlife projects have been very successful. The horror "Unfriended" grossed $65 million at the international box office, and the thriller "The Search" that won the audience prize at the Next Sundance festival's program earned $75 million. At the same time, the budget of both films did not exceed $ 1 million. The popularization of the screenlife format brought the Bazelevs studio a place in the list of the most innovative video companies in the world according to the American edition of Fast Company.
