Russia - Headquarters of the Ural Creative Cluster get a name

Russia (bbabo.net), - House on Weiner, 16 in Yekaterinburg, which will house a creative entrepreneurial cluster, has received a name. Out of more than two thousand proposals received during 10 days of a special competition, the jury chose the most capacious, expressive and exactly Ural name - "Domna" for the headquarters of the "intellectual entrepreneurship" of the region.

One of the main principles of operation of a metallurgical furnace is the continuity of the process. A mixture of raw materials - a charge - is constantly supplied to the blast furnace, and metal is born in the furnace mouth. The metaphor is obvious, but I wonder what components they plan to get "creative ingots" from?

The development of the creative business in Russia was loudly discussed in 2021, which was declared the Year of the Creative Industry. The Sverdlovsk region has become one of 10 pilot regions for the creation of new clusters based on industrial areas and unused real estate.

- In many countries, creative entrepreneurship is now coming out on top. Our task is to diversify the region's economy in order to give impetus to the creative industry, - says Valery Pilichev, director of the Sverdlovsk Regional Fund for Entrepreneurship Support, the project operator.

According to experts, even the most, at first glance, unreplicated intellectual activity can become a successful business. At the same time, musicians, artists, IT specialists, designers can work on the same platform, consolidating efforts. The authorities of the region have decided that the concept of a network cluster will be a pilot model for a new business.

“Of course, each territory develops independently based on its specifics, but the network model itself allows you to carry out the entire cycle of creating a creative product from idea to release, promotion and organization of the right sales,” says Victoria Kazakova, Minister of Investment and Development of the Sverdlovsk Region.

The first was the project "Summer at the Factory" in Sysert, where master classes and lectures were held at the old Turchaninov-Solomirsky factory, cafes and souvenir shops were opened. During the summer of 2020, the site was visited by 20,000 people - they even came here from other cities.

They say that it was the Ural experience that prompted the emergence of the ASI federal program for the transformation of industrial territories Rurban Creative Lab. Today, several such sites have already been activated in the Sverdlovsk region. So, at the Chernoistochinsky plant, a platband museum and an art residence were opened, potters and manufacturers of natural cosmetics were promoted.

According to the organizers, the creation of a regional design center will help to unite the creative points of the Middle Urals into a common space and develop clear algorithms. A list of promising sites will appear in April. For example, in Aramili, in the building of an old cloth factory, a production facility for tailoring and selling clothes by Ural fashion designers, as well as a museum of overcoats will be opened. It is clear that in order to use historical objects, it is necessary to resolve numerous organizational issues, starting with the mechanism for transferring real estate (it will be approved next summer).

Also, in the next two months, an interactive map of the network of creative clusters of the Sverdlovsk region will be created. With its help on the Internet, interested entrepreneurs will be able to choose a suitable platform for the implementation of their ideas. And for a dialogue with potential residents, a one-stop service will be launched.

Domna will become the center of this activity. The two-story mansion at 16 Vainer Street is one and a half centuries old: it was built in 1886 and belonged to the merchants Dmitriev. The renovated premises will open in late spring. By this time, the rebranding of the site will be completed, logos will be developed, a website will be created. By the way, the variant of the name chosen as a result was offered at the same time by four participants of competition. In addition to gifts, they received the status of residents, so now young people will have to think about the new content of Domna.

Direct speech

Alexey Orlov, Mayor of Yekaterinburg:

- Someone thinks that creative clusters and creative economy are just beautiful names. I thought so too, until real projects appeared. New public spaces are emerging for creative, thinking people who launch a popular interesting project, earn money, create new jobs and generally give new life to such sites. Many people remember that Sverdlovsk was the center of the rock movement, now there are people who would like to revive it. In addition, we plan to continue to support the Stenograffia festival, whose venue will also be located at the headquarters.
