Milan's La Scala Theater demanded that Russian conductor Valery Gergiev advocate for a peaceful resolution of the situation around Ukraine, TASS reports.

Gergiev is to conduct the Queen of Spades, which is scheduled to be shown at the theater from 5 to 13 March. The leadership of the cultural institution asks Gergiev to determine his position under the threat of termination of cooperation.

It is not the first time that Valery Gergiev, artistic director and general director of the Mariinsky Theatre, has been working as a guest conductor at La Scala. So far, he has not commented on the theater's request.
