Exhibition on the history of Russian Muslims opened on Sakhalin

A multimedia exhibition dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria opened in the Historical Park "Russia - My History" in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the press service of the cultural institution reports.

The Sakhalin Region is a fairly complex region in terms of ethno-confessional. Great ethnic and religious diversity requires the search for ways and opportunities for positive ways of interaction between representatives of different nationalities. And the exhibition "1100 years of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria" confirms this.

The celebration of this memorable date is already a long tradition both for Tatarstan and for Muslims throughout the country. So this exhibition project was prepared by the State Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for Archival Affairs with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Archival Affairs of the Sakhalin Region. The exposition in a multimedia format introduces archival text documents, maps, books, manuscripts, jewelry, household items, costumes, paintings and photographs.

More than a thousand years ago, the Volga Bulgaria established Islam as the state religion on its territory. This predetermined the creation of a unique civilization that combines the traditions of the West and the East. Islam in the Volga region gave a powerful impetus to the development of statehood and culture, which made a significant contribution to the historical heritage of Russia.

– Today's event is very important for the history of Russia. Russia is a country that includes many religions, traditions, confessions - they are all tightly intertwined with each other. Such events help us to learn more about each other, to know our history, the history of our country, our Russia better. We need to be closer to each other so that our hearts will unite and be more friendly. We must love and respect each other, regardless of religiosity, confession and nationality, - said the imam-khatib of the mosque, the chairman of the local Muslim religious organization "Sakhalin" Madaminov Muhammad Yakub Khazrat.

Islam is a religion of peace, goodness and creation. We have vast experience: our ancestors found the golden rod of mutual understanding, peace and harmony. It is wonderful that today there is such an opportunity - the exchange of exhibitions between regions. For us, this is a great event, being far from our small homeland. Thank you all very much! I wish this exhibition to be visited by as many Sakhalin residents and guests of the island region as possible, - said Vasily Yagfarovna Khuzina, chairman of the national and cultural autonomy of the Tatars of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

The spread of Islam in the territory of the modern Caucasus, the Volga region, the Crimea, in Central Russia, followed by close interaction with the culture of neighbors, had the most beneficial effect on the development of social production, trade, social thought, science, education, architecture, poetry, and music.

– I congratulate all of us on the opening of this unique exhibition. A lot of work has been done, a lot of work has been invested in adapting the material. The kindest words of gratitude to the staff of the institutions. In a very short time and at a high level, the exhibition merged into the space of the Historical Park. I am sure that this exhibition project will be of interest not only to Muslims, but also to those who are interested in and study history. Congratulations to everyone on this event! - said Yuri Anatolyevich Filipenko, director of the Pobeda Museum and Memorial Complex.

He noted that it is the interpenetration of cultures and traditions, the resulting skills of peaceful coexistence of different peoples, that make our country so unique, and its experience so valuable. These values need to be preserved and enhanced. This is a duty both to our ancestors and to our descendants. And this exhibition, as well as festive celebrations throughout Russia, is an important step towards fulfilling this task.

At the end of the solemn event, Madaminov Muhammad Yakub Hazrat presented the publication “Muslims in the Russian Far East. History and Modernity” on behalf of the local Muslim religious organization “Sakhalin” to the head of the museum, Yuri Anatolyevich Filipenko, as a token of gratitude for organizing the opening of the exhibition and further cooperation.

A multimedia exhibition dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria is officially open. The same part continued with an interesting and informative tour, which was conducted by Konstantin Kostenko, a museum specialist.
