Armed guards of key facilities have been strengthened at Baikonur

The head of the state corporation "Roskosmos" Dmitry Rogozin said that at the Baikonur cosmodrome the armed guards of key facilities had been strengthened. TASS reports.

“The day passed calmly at Baikonur. Branches of Roscosmos enterprises, law enforcement agencies, city services and organizations are operating normally. The operational headquarters, created under the Baikonur administration, fully controls the situation in the city, ”Rogozin said.

Baikonur is the first and also the world's largest operating cosmodrome, founded in the Soviet Union (on the territory of the Kazakh SSR). Currently, the Baikonur complex is leased by Russia from Kazakhstan for the period until 2050.

In Kazakhstan, protests began on January 2 in the city of Zhanaozen, Mangistau Oblast, after the price for a liter of liquefied gas increased to 120 tenge (about 21 rubles). Before that, the price for a liter of gas was 60 tenge. Two days later, clashes between protesters and the police and the military began in Almaty and a number of other cities. Clashes also took place in Aktobe, Taraz, Aktau and other settlements.

Earlier, the Kazakh leader Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev announced that the airport and five planes were hijacked by "terrorists" in Alma-Ata. According to him, "terrorists" are rampaging in other cities, seizing infrastructure buildings.
