Moldova may be left without gas

The gas distribution company "Moldovagaz" informed the Moldovan government about financial difficulties and the possible suspension of gas supplies by Gazprom due to non-fulfillment of financial obligations by the Moldovan side. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the government of the republic.

Moldovagaz informed the commission that the supplier would no longer allow negative financial deviations and that there was a risk of cutting off natural gas supplies if payments were not made in accordance with the contractual terms,” the statement says.

It is specified that the Moldovagaz company again faced financial difficulties due to the inconsistency of tariffs with the increased price of imported gas in January. In addition, the company asks to discuss with the representatives of "Gazprom" the possibility of deferred payment.

In this situation, the authorities of the republic recommended that state institutions reduce gas consumption.

Earlier, the head of "Moldovagaz" Vadim Cheban said that in January the price of gas for Moldova will be higher than last December.

At the end of October 2021, Chisinau extended the contract with Gazprom for five years. On November 1, Gazprom began supplying gas to Moldova under a new contract. It is also reported that Chisinau agreed with Gazprom to audit the debt of Moldovagaz.
