Moldova will pay more than 62 million lei in 2022 as a member of 57 international organizations

Moldova (bbabo.net), - At least 62 million lei are allocated from the state budget to pay membership fees to international and regional organizations. They intend to approve the corresponding resolution on Wednesday at a government meeting. This amount will be paid for membership in 57 international organizations, seven structures within the CIS and five parliamentary formations, publika.md reports.

Over nine million will be transferred to the Council of Europe, Almost five more - to the United Nations. More than four million will go to the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS, and the least amount of money - 269 thousand lei - will be provided to the World Health Organization.

The list also includes the Convention on the Regime of Navigation on the Danube, which will receive more than three million, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research with a contribution of almost four million lei, and the Europe-Caucasus-Asia Transport Corridor. One million 320 thousand lei will be sent to him. But there are also symbolic sums - 25 thousand lei for the International Court of the Law of the Sea and 7000 - for the International Seabed Authority. Some experts believe that certain protocols were ratified in a package and have nothing to do with our country.

"I think that Moldova's participation in more than half of the organizations is not useful. The reason is that we are not engaged in such activities. In addition, some structures were more active in the past. And, for example, now GUAM practically does not exist. The pragmatism of the state, especially such as poor as Moldova. But it is not so easy to denounce the protocol," the analyst says.

Other analysts believe that Moldova may refuse to participate in some organizations, but decisions in this regard must be well calculated: "We must participate in international cooperation, but in each specific case this must be assessed in accordance with financial capabilities."

“Probably, we can analyze our participation in these organizations and see if there is a relationship between them. For a demonstrative exit from any of them, there must be serious reasons that actually show the vulnerability of a subject of international law,” the expert concluded.

The explanatory note to the draft resolution, signed by the Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs, states that compliance with financial obligations within the framework of international organizations will significantly strengthen existing partnerships, and will also contribute to the promotion of the priority policy of the state at the internal and external levels.
