Moldovan authorities intend to increase subsidies for the creation of vineyards

Moldova (bbabo.net), - In eight to ten years, the wine industry of the Republic of Moldova risks being left without raw materials. The main problem is surfaces inherited from the Soviet period, planted with varieties not requested on the market. To change the situation, the authorities intend to increase subsidies for the creation of new vineyards and the installation of modern support systems on them, reports ipn.md

In a conversation with the authorities, the grape processors declared their readiness to plant annually 100 hectares of grapes for wine, modern plantations equipped with support systems, irrigation, which would allow the use of mechanized maintenance. In addition, they are open and interested in concluding long-term contracts with those wishing to plant vineyards located in areas adjacent to settlements where there are processing points, according to an information note from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

The main costs associated with the creation and maintenance of a hectare of vineyards, as well as their covered by state support, make this direction unattractive, together with quality requirements. The ministry proposes to amend the distribution of money from the National Fund for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas.

In particular, it is proposed to increase the subsidy for the creation of vineyards with wine varieties, depending on the density of the vine per hectare. Thus, in the case of plantations with a density of 3,501 to 4,000 vines, the subsidy should increase from 35,000 to 60,000 lei per hectare, and in the case of a density of more than 4,001 vines, from 40,000 lei to 65,000 lei per hectare .

In addition, subsidies for the installation and modernization of supports in young vineyards should be increased. In the case of vertical trellises made of metal alloys, plastics and tension devices, subsidies will increase from 30-35 thousand lei per hectare to 80-85 thousand lei per hectare.

At the insistence of relevant associations, it is proposed to increase the subsidy ceiling, for example, the ceiling for anti-hail equipment. The subsidy should be calculated after the payment of the last installment and the transfer of ownership of anti-hail equipment, but not more than 200 thousand lei/ha, instead of 100 thousand lei/ha as at present.

Until 2021, Moldovan wines were positioned on the world market as attractive in terms of price and quality. That is why they were quite in demand. Currently, the price per liter of wine has increased by more than 25%, and at this price, Moldovan wine should compete with wines from France, Italy, Spain, which is quite difficult, because potential importers prefer brands that are better known than the Wine of Moldova brand .
