Russia imposes a ban on the supply of poultry from Europe

Russia has introduced temporary restrictions on the supply of live poultry and poultry products to the country due to the situation with "highly pathogenic avian influenza" in European countries. This is stated in the message on the website of the Rosselkhoznadzor.

The statement says that the service is taking measures to prevent the introduction of this virus into the territory of the Russian Federation “due to the deteriorating epizootic situation” in some European countries.

“In order to ensure the biological safety of the country, the department introduces restrictions on the import of poultry and poultry products from territories that are unfavorable for this disease,” the report says.

Rosselkhoznadzor clarified that in connection with new outbreaks of bird flu, a temporary ban is being introduced on the import of such products from the Ustetsky region of the Czech Republic into the country. From December 30, 2021, similar measures have been extended to the entire territory of Slovenia and such UK provinces as Lincolnshire and Norfolk.

The Rosselkhoznadzor also indicated that the restrictions apply to live poultry, hatching eggs, poultry meat, finished poultry meat products (with the exception of products subjected to processing that ensures the destruction of avian influenza viruses, in accordance with the provisions of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code), feed and feed additives for birds (with the exception of feed and feed additives of plant origin, chemical and microbiological synthesis). The transit of live birds through Russian territory is also prohibited.

Earlier in southern China, a new case of human infection with a highly pathogenic variant of H5N6 avian influenza was registered.
