Named the reasons for the negative dynamics of the euro

Mikhail Zeltser, an expert on the BCS World of Investments stock market, said that in 2021 the dynamics of the euro was poor: the currency lost 7% against the dollar and showed one of the worst results among funding currencies, Prime agency reports.

He believes that the reasons that the euro has weakened are the high dependence of the eurozone on imports of raw materials (which has seriously risen in price last year), the loose monetary policy of the European Central Bank (ECB) and the uneven recovery of the EU countries. The specialist is confident that this year the authorities will not be able to cope with these problems, and the euro will continue to stagnate towards parity with the dollar.

He also called the lockdowns associated with the coronavirus pandemic one of the most important factors that affect the exchange rate of the European currency.

This week, the Russian ruble has fallen in price against world currencies. Experts believe that this is due to the aggravation of geopolitical risks and tensions between Russia and the West. On January 14, the euro exchange rate during currency trading on the Moscow Exchange for the first time since July 2021 rose above 88 rubles.

Prior to the publication of a statement by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov that Russia would find alternatives in the event of new US sanctions, the dollar exchange rate was 74.81 rubles. (+0.14%), and the euro was at around 85.78 rubles. (+0.32%).

Aleksey Krichevsky, an expert at the Academy of Financial and Investment Management, predicted that over the next few days the ruble will strengthen against the dollar and the euro, but another major devaluation awaits the Russian currency in the spring.
