Expert: the head of the IEA is distorting the issue of gas supplies to Europe

Deputy General Director of the National Energy Security Fund Alexei Grivach commented on the accusations of the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Fatih Birol against Gazprom.

“Unfortunately, the head of the IEA, who, I think, is well aware of the structure of the gas market in Europe, in this particular case, is engaged in political distortion. Gazprom supplies gas within the framework of its contractual obligations and in accordance with the requests of its customers.

Moreover, due to the unprecedented rise in prices on the market, many customers themselves are significantly reducing Russian gas withdrawals, preferring to cover their also reduced obligations at the expense of other sources. But this may partly be a consequence of political decisions against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions,” Grivach said.

Recall that earlier the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, accused Gazprom of artificially creating "tension on the European energy market." According to the head of the IEA, Russia can increase gas supplies to the continent by at least a third.
