"The government complied with all the points of the protocol signed with Gazprom. We ensured payments for the troubled months and initiated an audit procedure at Moldovagaz.

The situation is not the result of government inaction, but the result of the relationship between Moldovagaz and Gazprom.

According to the contract, Moldova must pay the cost by the 20th. Full payment was made on January 14th. Until January 20, Moldovagaz has to pay $63 million in advance for January. Moldovagaz will have time to pay 38 million of this amount by tomorrow, the difference is 25 million dollars. $38 million is consumption for 10 days in January. Current payments are made on time, and it is only a few days. This difference has accumulated over several days due to the fact that the tariff does not cover the cost for January, which is $646. As a result, this difference of 25 million was formed," Andrei Spinu explained.

Let us recall that on January 18, Gazprom sent an official letter to Moldovagaz, in which it announced its intention to suspend the supply of natural gas to the Republic of Moldova in case of non-payment of full current consumption until January 20.
