The Prime Minister of Bavaria spoke out against the sanctions on Nord Stream 2

The Prime Minister of Bavaria and one of the leaders of the Christian Social Union party Markus Söder spoke out against the tightening of sanctions against Russia and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. It is reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

“No one can want war in Europe. At the same time, the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine must be respected in accordance with international law. But constant new threats and increasingly harsh sanctions against Russia cannot be the solution,” the politician said.

According to him, now the sanctions are ineffective, and on the other hand, they would damage Europe itself. As possible examples, he cited the exclusion of Russia from the SWIFT financial system, the closure of Nord Stream 2, and the cessation of all Russian gas supplies.

“Even at the height of the Cold War, the energy link between the Soviet Union and Germany was not in doubt,” Soeder said.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht agreed with Chancellor Olaf Scholz that all measures should be considered as sanctions against Russia in the event of its alleged “invasion” of Ukraine.

On the eve it was reported that the European Union has not yet agreed on potential sanctions against Russia in the event of its "aggression" against Ukraine, several options are being considered.

In recent months, Western media, as well as in Ukraine, have been claiming that Russia is allegedly preparing a “large-scale invasion” of Ukraine. In Moscow, such allegations have been repeatedly rejected.
