The EU called one of the reasons for high gas prices

European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said that geopolitical tensions are one of the reasons for high gas prices. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

She noted that the current period is important for the energy sector of the community.

“In the short term, we are facing unusually high energy prices, a trend exacerbated by geopolitical tensions,” Simson said.

According to her, recently the cost of gas in the world has reached historical highs. This indirectly affected tariffs in European countries, as a result of which consumers and industry faced difficulties in paying bills.

The European Commissioner added that to support consumers, the EU has adopted support measures in the amount of 21 billion euros.

Earlier it became known that the United States is negotiating with Qatar on gas supplies to the European Union in the event of a conflict in Ukraine. In addition to Qatar, most of whose gas exports go to Japan, the White House also plans to hold talks with other countries that produce natural gas.
