The administration of US President Joe Biden has prepared sanctions against a number of Russian officials in the event of an “attack” by the Russian Federation on Ukraine, reports The Financial Times.

“The individuals we have identified are close to the Kremlin and play a role in the government’s decision-making process, or at least are involved in the Kremlin’s destabilizing behavior,” a source in Washington told the publication.

The list includes members of the board of directors of Russian state-owned companies and high-profile officials. Restrictions, as noted in the article, may affect their wives and children.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in an interview that London could impose sanctions against Russian oligarchs and companies that serve as a support for the Russian state and are involved in the situation around Ukraine. She stressed that Britain can only take restrictive measures against those "directly involved in destabilizing activities" in the country.
