Russia - Gunzburg told how children under 5 years old will be vaccinated against COVID-19

Russia (bbabo.net), - It would be more logical to vaccinate children from six months to five years of age against coronavirus infection with the nasal form of Sputnik (nasal spray), at least the developer will advocate just such an approach.

This was announced by the director of the Center. Gamaleya of the Ministry of Health of Russia Alexander Gintsburg. According to him, there is also an option to dilute the Sputnik V vaccine ten times for use in children under five years of age, similar to how the same adult vaccine was diluted five times for the Sputnik M variant (for children 12-17 years old). ).

The final decision on the form of vaccination for younger children will be made only after the trials of the nasal vaccine for adults are completed, Gunzburg said in an interview with Interfax. It is assumed that this will take another 2.5 months, the academician estimated earlier. For children aged 6-11 years, vaccine trials will start during February.

So far, there have been no adverse reactions in volunteers who participate in nasal vaccine trials. These are the preliminary results of observations after the first dose of the vaccine, Elena Smolyarchuk, head of the Center for Clinical Study of Medicines at Sechenov University, told RIA Novosti (research is being carried out at four institutions, including Sechenovka). The second component of the nasal vaccine, by analogy with the vaccination, will be given to the subjects after 21 days.

A feature of the nasal vaccine is that it is able to create an additional barrier in the nasopharynx when the virus is inhaled. The drug can also be effective against "omicron", the level of infectivity of which is several times higher than that of other strains of coronavirus. According to the Center for Gamaleya, in the future it will be possible to combine an injection with Sputnik and a spray.
