Russia - Will taxi services continue to rise in price

Russia (bbabo.net), - Passenger spending on taxis rose by about 12% over the year, fiscal data operators told Rossiyskaya Gazeta. Taxi is getting more expensive due to growth in demand, analysts explain. The monopolization of the market and the shortage of taxi drivers can also provoke further price increases.

The average check for taxi services, according to the OFD Platform company, which processes up to 50 million cash receipts daily, from January 2021 to January 2022 increased by an average of 12%, to 251 rubles. The volume of sales in terms of money increased by 20%. The company explains that this year the business season started earlier, because the frequency of using taxi services has increased.

In December 2021, compared to December 2020, against the backdrop of the New Year's Eve hype, the average check increased by 17% at once. December trips in Moscow went up especially noticeably - by 57%. Controlling government agencies have paid attention to the taxi market more than once. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), in particular, stated that they consider it important not to allow the dominant position of individual market participants.

Representatives of aggregator companies, however, note that they did not raise tariffs. As the press service of Citymobil explained to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the cost of trips is formed by automatic algorithms, taking into account traffic congestion, the predicted duration of the trip, the number of cars on the line and other factors. The Yandex company notes that supply and demand are now in balance, therefore the multiplying factor works less often than in December. Aggregators explain the introduction of "increasing coefficients" by the need to attract drivers precisely to those areas and at those hours where they are most lacking. But it is impossible to increase the number of drivers in one day.

The number of organizations and individual entrepreneurs providing taxi services from the first quarter of 2019 to the first quarter of 2022 decreased by 14%, from 91.6 thousand to 78.9 thousand, according to data from Kontur, a provider of online business services. The process of carriers leaving the market has affected the regions, where taxi drivers may be in short supply. This means that passengers should prepare for the periodic inclusion of increasing coefficients. In Moscow and the Moscow region, the number of taxi organizations, on the contrary, has grown. But here, too, one should not count on price reductions.

The cost of a taxi ride has increased by an average of 12% over the year. Demand for services is growing, there are not enough taxi drivers for everyone, analysts explain

"Aggregators and the level of market monopolization have a greater influence on prices. In Moscow, 80% is now occupied by Yandex. If the monopoly is maintained, then prices will gradually increase one way or another, as will the commission," explains a representative of the International Eurasian Forum " Taxi" Stanislav Schwagerus. In addition, the demand for taxis is constantly growing. At the same time, cars have risen in price over the past year, and this is not yet reflected in the tariffs, he adds.
