Russia - Mishustin allocates funding for nasal coronavirus vaccine trials

Russia (bbabo.net), - Center. Gamalei will receive 187.8 million rubles to conduct clinical trials of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in the form of a nasal spray. The order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

With the help of federal funds, the first and second phases of research on adult volunteers will be carried out, the press service of the Ministry of Health reported. In the future, the drug is planned to be used for revaccination of citizens.

"The study of the nasal form of the Sputnik V vaccine will confirm its safety and effectiveness. The expansion of the arsenal of drugs for the prevention of COVID-19 will further protect people's health from infection," said Assistant Minister of Health Alexei Kuznetsov.

Formerly head of the Institute Gamalei Alexander Gintsburg said that it would still take 2-2.5 months to test a nasal vaccine against coronavirus, it would also be effective against the Omicron strain, and it would become available for civil circulation in 3-4 months. According to the scientist, several dozen volunteers have already been vaccinated. He also suggested that the new drug would increase the interval for revaccination, since nasal vaccines are more effective for infections that are transmitted by airborne droplets.
