Many Rotterdam residents have been outraged by reports that a €430 million superyacht being built ostensibly for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos could require the removal of a monument in the city, the De Hef Bridge. A local resident named Pablo Strörmann organized a Facebook event where people are invited to throw eggs at this yacht.
“To all Rotterdamers, take a box of (rotten) eggs or, if you are a vegan, tomatoes. And let's toss them en masse into Jeff's superyacht,” reads the description of the meeting, which is scheduled for June 1st.
The author of the initiative said that it started more as a joke among friends, but within two days of its announcement, about 1,100 people said they would come with eggs in their hands. To date, 4.7 thousand people have indicated that they will join the action. Another 16,000 expressed their interest.
Earlier it became known that the Rotterdam City Hall received a request from the owner of the luxury yacht Y721 to dismantle the central section of the historic Koningshafen bridge. The owner of this yacht, which is considered to be the owner of the American billionaire Jeff Bezos, justified this by the fact that otherwise the 127-meter one would not be able to leave the shipyard and swim out to sea.
Despite the fact that the Dutch journalists, as a result of the investigation, were able to find out that the contract for the construction of the vessel was signed by Bezos's representatives, the American company itself refused to comment on the events, citing the secrecy of private life.
