Moscow accused Warsaw of obstructing the launch of Nord Stream 2

Poland does not stop trying to stop the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project and hinders its certification. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to RIA Novosti.

“Poland does not stop trying to torpedo the launch of the Nord Stream 2 project and undermine the reputation of PJSC Gazprom as a reliable supplier of natural gas to Europe,” the ministry said.

The ministry also recalled that at the end of December, the contract for gas transit through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline to Poland expires. In accordance with this document, the Polish PGNiG buys at least 8.7 billion cubic meters of gas annually. In November 2019, the Polish company announced that it would not renew the agreement.

Starting next year, the Polish authorities plan to replace Russian gas with supplies through the Baltic Pipeline under construction and an increase in the volume of imported LNG from the United States and Qatar.

Earlier, Polish Wyborcza journalist Andrzej Kublik wrote that a new gas contract with Beijing for pumping gas along the Far East route makes Moscow less dependent on supplies to Europe.

The author of the material said that Russia is guilty of creating an energy crisis in the EU. He also accused Moscow of "gas blackmail" over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The journalist recalled that additional sanctions could be imposed against the pipeline, and expressed dissatisfaction that the contract with China would help Russia reduce its dependence on fuel sales to Europe.
