Belgians switch to a four-day work week

Belgian authorities have ordered employers to consider an employee's request to switch from a five-day work week to a four-day work week with pay, Bloomberg reports.

“The goal is to give people and companies more freedom to organize working hours,” commented Prime Minister Alexandre De Croux on the innovation.

As Deputy Prime Minister of Labor Pierre-Yves Dermanier said, an employer has the right to refuse an employee's request, provided that it can explain the refusal in writing.

The introduction of a shorter workweek was planned in Belgium last autumn.

In early February, a survey was published that showed the attitude of Russians to the idea of shortening working days.
