Russia (bbabo.net) - Russia expects the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to be protected from rough political influence, and the project operator will comply with all the requirements of the German regulator to launch the pipe, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We proceed from the fact that we will be able to protect this purely economic international project from gross political influence from outside," he said.

Speaking about the prospects of the project in the light of Chancellor F. Olaf Scholz's recent visit to Moscow, the Kremlin spokesman said: "Both the Russian and German sides believe that this is an international project that can and should play a very important role in stabilizing energy markets in Europe, which will certainly will play an important role in future energy security in Europe and will simply make gas prices cheaper for European consumers."

At the same time, Peskov recalled that the European regulator has certain requirements for the gas pipeline that the operator company must fulfill, and expressed the hope that they will be met "a" to "z". Moreover, the gas pipeline is 100 percent ready for launch, he added.
