Russia - Ministry of Digital Development: Satellite Internet project to be submitted by the end of Q2 2022

Russia (bbabo.net), - The federal project "Internet Access" may be submitted before the end of the second quarter, said Dmitry Kim, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development.

The project involves providing satellite coverage of the territories of the Arctic zone and the Far East until 2024, and access to the Internet for citizens in hard-to-reach areas by 2030. "We plan to close all formal issues in the first or second quarter, and having already fully decided on the configuration, we will be able to announce it. And then start production," Interfax quotes Kim. According to the official, work is currently underway to identify partners for the project, as well as on the model of its financing. The NWF is considered as an extrabudgetary source.

"The National Welfare Fund is used as an extra-budgetary source. For this, an appropriate return business model is being drawn up. We are now deciding on partners, looking at the most suitable option for financing," Kim said.

The total amount of funding, as follows from the project passport, will amount to 63.86 billion rubles by the end of 2024, including from the federal budget - 33.38 billion rubles, another 30.48 billion rubles - from extrabudgetary sources. The federal project "Internet Access" is included in the national program "Digital Economy". The goal of the initiative is to create satellite communications to provide citizens with broadband access to the Internet in remote and hard-to-reach settlements.

The project involves the creation by 2024 and the launch in 2025 of one communications and broadcasting satellite in geostationary orbit "Express" and 4 communications and broadcasting satellites in highly elliptical orbits "Express-RV". In addition, it is planned to produce 8 more Express satellites. RSCC plans to provide a subsidy for Express-RV satellites.
