Bloomberg: EU intends to increase strategic gas reserves in order to prepare for the crisis

The European Union is considering options to expand strategic natural gas reserves to better prepare for next winter in the event of a gas crisis in Europe. This is reported by the American agency Bloomberg, citing a draft version of the European project.

It is noted that the relevant document should be submitted in March 2021. It will reflect the requirements of the EU member states to ensure the minimum volume of gas reserves annually by September 30th.

Also, the document will be aimed at launching a pilot project to assist the EU and operators in joint gas purchases up to the minimum required strategic reserve.

In addition, the EU intends to call on the governments of European countries to ensure the sufficiency of national and regional capacities at the beginning of each heating season, the agency writes.

Earlier it was reported that applications for pumping gas through the gas transportation system of Ukraine increased by 1.6 times as of February 19.
