Austrian Chancellor admitted that new EU sanctions against Russia will affect Nord Stream 2

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer admitted that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could be included in the EU sanctions package against Russia, which recognized the independence of the DPR and LPR. It is reported by TASS.

“If an extensive sanctions regime comes into force, then, of course, Nord Stream 2 will also be covered,” he said, speaking at a press conference.

Earlier, the largest faction in the European Parliament called for immediate sanctions against Russia to exclude it from the European economy.

According to the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, the first sanctions against Russia will be adopted on Tuesday, February 22, but this will not be the entire EU response to Moscow's recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics.

The day before, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed orders recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
