Russia - Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to start labeling beer from October 1

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed to start mandatory labeling of beer from 1 October. This is stated in the message on the official website of the department.

The Ministry proposes to label beer in kegs from October 1, 2022, beer in plastic and glass containers - from February 15, 2023, and from May 15, 2023 - in other types of packaging, for example, an aluminum can.

Earlier, the agency planned to start mandatory labeling of beer and low-alcohol drinks for sale to the end consumer from December 1 this year.

As follows from the message, the deadlines have changed after consultations with representatives of the beer industry and the operator of the labeling system.

"The timing of the introduction of labeling for beer and low-alcohol drinks has been specified. These proposals were the result of a dialogue with the brewing industry, they take into account the proposals of market participants," said Viktor Yevtukhov, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The beer labeling experiment itself began in Russia on April 1 last year. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this will help track the "life path" of the goods and fight illegal products.
