BP says it is selling its stake in Rosneft

British oil company BP said on Sunday that it is getting rid of a 19.75% stake in the Russian company Rosneft due to a Russian special operation in Ukraine. It is reported by TASS.

The statement notes that the board of directors of the British company announced the disposal of its stake in Rosneft, which has been at its disposal since 2013. Also, the executive director of BP, Bernard Looney, announced the immediate resignation from the board of directors of the Russian company.

Another Rosneft director nominated by BP, former CEO Bob Dudley, is also stepping down from the board of directors.

In light of this decision, BP will no longer report to Rosneft on the volume of its reserves, production and profits, and will withdraw from other joint projects with the Russian company in the future.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect the Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill on general mobilization to the Verkhovna Rada.
