Japan imposes sanctions against the Bank of Russia

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced sanctions against the Central Bank of Russia, TASS reports.

Restrictive measures were also introduced personally against the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

Earlier, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said that Tokyo is considering imposing sanctions against high-ranking officials of the government of Belarus due to the conflict in Ukraine.

Prior to this, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Minsk and Moscow are not afraid of Western sanctions, and both countries should “survive calmly” the current period.

The day before, the Bank of Russia announced that the country's banking system is at a stable level, has an adequate capital reserve, and the transfer of financial messages when disconnected from SWIFT will be possible through the Financial Message Transfer System (SPFS).

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation in the Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR. Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. The decision to conduct the operation was the reason for new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies.
