Ukraine called grandiose the West's idea of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba believes that the possible disconnection of Russia from the SWIFT international banking system, which is being discussed by Western countries, is a "grandiose" idea. He made the corresponding statement in an interview with The Washington Post.

“I know from unofficial conversations with Western officials that they are discussing the“ nuclear option ”in the form of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT. It would be grandiose, ”said the Foreign Minister.

Earlier in December, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States in 2001-2005 under President George W. Bush, Yan Brzezinski, proposed to disconnect the Russian Federation from SWIFT for several days. This measure, according to the politician, will be a warning to Moscow.

Brzezinski made this statement against the background of reports that tough sanctions are being prepared against Moscow in the event of Russia's allegedly planned "invasion" of Ukraine.

The story of a possible "Russian invasion" of Ukraine has been actively promoted in the West since mid-autumn. The United States has consistently pointed to an alleged increase in Russian forces near the Ukrainian borders, threatening Moscow with new sanctions in the event of an escalation. At the same time, the Kremlin has repeatedly directly denied any plans to attack Ukraine, on the contrary, pointing to the possible preparation of a military operation in Donbass from Kiev.
