In Kaliningrad, Lithuanian sanctions against goods from Belarus called a threat

The initiative of the Lithuanian authorities to restrict the transit of goods from Belarus could seriously affect the situation in the Kaliningrad region, the regional governor Anton Alikhanov said in an interview with RIA Novosti, commenting on the proposal of the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport on sanctions against products that somehow arrive from the Belarusian border.

“I am very worried that some initiatives are heard to limit the transit of Belarusian goods through the territory of Lithuania. And I ask everyone for help. Actually, there is Kaliningrad. And besides the fact that something can pass through us in transit, we, in fact, consume Belarusian goods - food, building materials and not only, ”explained the head of the Kaliningrad region.

According to him, Lithuania as a whole must comply with the principle of freedom of transit of goods. But, Alikhanov noted, if restrictions are ultimately imposed on cargo from Belarus, then Vilnius needs to consider exceptions for Russia.

“I believe that the restriction of these traffic should never be introduced or even considered, because this is no longer relations between Lithuania and Belarus or someone else, this is relations with Russia. And here it is necessary to provide for appropriate exceptions, if they will restrict something in themselves, ”the governor summed up.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to the EU and NATO with a proposal to introduce preventive sanctions against Russia and not wait for Moscow to take any hostile steps.
