Energy crisis will cost European consumers € 350 billion in 2022

Consumers from European countries in 2022 may give more than € 350 billion due to the energy crisis, said the Minister of Environment and Energy of Greece Kostas Skrekas at a meeting in Brussels of the EU Energy Council, writes the Greek newspaper Ifemeris.

“If the forecasts of market specialists are confirmed, then the citizens of Europe will have to pay more than € 350 billion in 2022 due to the rise in prices for electricity and gas,” Skrekas said.

He believes that in connection with the current situation with electricity prices, one should not take a passive position. Therefore, it is necessary to create a single European mechanism to support vulnerable households, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Skrekas also noted that Greece fully supports the reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, in order to reduce them by 55% by 2030. To this end, the country submitted the first national climate law for public discussion.

In late October, the Norwegian international energy company Equinor decided to help European countries cope with the energy crisis. Gazprom's largest competitor then decided to increase gas supplies to the European market.
