Naftogaz complained about Gazprom

Naftogaz has filed a complaint with the European Union (EU) against Russia's Gazprom, according to a statement posted on the Ukrainian company's website.

Gazprom has sharply reduced sales of its own gas in the European spot market, despite growing demand and restricting the ability of other companies to supply additional volumes of gas to Europe and compete. This is the main reason for the crisis and record price increases in Europe. Gazprom's actions are anticompetitive and have entailed significant negative consequences for all European consumers, ”said Yuriy Vitrenko, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz.

Naftogaz is confident that Gazprom's goal is to create an artificial gas shortage and put pressure on the European Union to launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline as soon as possible without complying with the requirements of European legislation.

Gas futures prices in Europe have been growing markedly in recent days. The day before, the price of gas futures for January for the first time in the entire history of observations approached $ 2200, thereby updating its historical maximum.

On December 22, Gazprom again refused to book the facilities of Yamal-Europe - this did not happen either during the regular or during the additional session. This gas pipeline, which runs through Poland and leads to Germany, is one of the key routes for Russian gas supplies to Europe. In 2020, the long-term agreement between Gazprom and the Polish PGNiG expired, so this year the Russian company booked the pipeline capacity through an auction.
