Airbus to buy Russian plasma thrusters for OneWeb satellites

Airbus Defence company and Space (ADS) is intending to purchase Russian stationary plasma thrusters (SPT) and batteries . They are all needed for orbit correction of satellites, which will be used for the deployment of the world's largest satellite group "OneWeb", a high-ranking source in Russian space industry said to "Izvestia".

SPD are produced by Torch Experimental Design Bureau located in Kaliningrad; and batteries – by Saturn Industries in Krasnodar. ADS is obliged to make up to 900 units in the value of less than 500,000 Euros each.

On June 25, 2015, the companies Arianespace and OneWeb announced a contract deal on launching the satellite mobile communication network "OneWeb". The agreement provides for the purchase of 21 Russian carrier rockets "Soyuz", which are supposed to bring into orbit 672 satellites within the period from 2017 to 2019.
