Georgia’s PM: imported agricultural products could be phased out in one or two years

Georgia’s PM Irakli Gharibashvili said imported agricultural products could be phased out in one or two years.

“I do not mean tropical fruit, but we should definitely produce all that can be grown domestically to replace imported products. I would like to stress that I am not against importing goods but development of local industry and employment are our main tasks at the moment,” — Gharibashvili said.

According to him, serious progress has been achieved in agriculture. As he has declared, “a very optimistic picture has become clear.”

The PM has outlined the directions that have potential for development, though are less used.

I would like to stress that there has not been a lasting drive to develop local industry; but our government expresses this intention by means of the “Produce in Georgia” program,” — remarked PM.
