It became known why the Moscow-Kazan highway increased in price by 200 billion rubles

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin said that the high-speed highway under construction from Moscow-Kazan has become more expensive by 200 billion rubles. Earlier, according to Vedomosti, the project was estimated at 623 billion rubles.

Khusnullin explained that the rise in the cost of the project is due to several factors. Firstly, this happened due to the rise in prices for building materials, including metal, which led to a rise in the cost of the project by 30 billion rubles.

Secondly, it was decided to raise wages for builders, which added another 46 billion rubles. to the cost.

The most significant point of the rise in price was the fact that the highway was lengthened by 15 km, since it is planned to connect it with the existing M7 Volga near Kazan. Motorists will have the opportunity to immediately go to Yekaterinburg.

Nevertheless, Khusnullin noted that the main problem now is the increase in the cost of materials. This threat, he said, hangs over the entire construction industry.

“Now we are entering a risk zone, so if the price continues to grow by 15–20% or more, then we will be forced to reduce the already launched construction programs,” the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.

On December 17, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov announced that the construction of the M-12 Moscow-Kazan highway would be completed on time, despite the increase in the cost of work.

The M-12 highway project provides for the construction of an 800 km high-speed road that will connect the Moscow, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod regions, the republics of Chuvashia and Tatarstan with the network of high-speed highways in the European part of Russia. Completion of construction is scheduled for 2024.

In mid-November, the head of Avtodor, Vyacheslav Petushenko, said that despite the shortage of labor, the state-owned company that is building the M-12 Moscow-Kazan highway will not use prison labor.
