Poroshenko: Ukraine could buy gas 10 times cheaper

Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who left the country after being charged with high treason, said that Naftogaz could buy gas 10 times cheaper, Ukrainian Channel 5 reports.

“Ukraine has never entered the winter with such reserves of gas and coal. At the beginning of this winter, Naftogaz had more than $ 2 billion, which was allocated not for theft, not for the corrupt deals of the “great theft”, or for corruption in the procurement of medical equipment. They had to buy gas with them. It cost ten times cheaper than today, ”Poroshenko said.

The ex-president called the Great Construction infrastructure project proposed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky "Great theft".

Earlier, Poroshenko's lawyers issued a statement after accusing the ex-president.

The accusations against Poroshenko became known at the end of December. Law enforcers suspect the ex-president of treason because of the so-called "coal case", namely the purchase of coal from the self-proclaimed republics of the DPR and LPR in 2014-2015. According to Ukrainian law, these formations are recognized as terrorist organizations, therefore Poroshenko's interaction with the republics is regarded as financing terrorism.

In mid-December, Poroshenko left Ukraine when they tried to serve him a subpoena. "European Solidarity" reported that Poroshenko "left for a pre-planned diplomatic tour to Turkey and Poland."
