The United States commented on the withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeepers from Kazakhstan

The US authorities welcomed the withdrawal of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent from Kazakhstan. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the official representative of the US State Department, Ned Price.

“We welcome President Tokayev's statement that the collective peacekeeping force has completed its mission ... We continue to call on all collective peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to respect human rights and fulfill their obligation to leave Kazakhstan promptly as requested by the Kazakh government,” he said.

Kazakhstani leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the completion of the CSTO peacekeeping mission on Tuesday, January 11. He noted that the collapse of the mission will take no more than ten days. At the same time, the personnel of the special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard will be increased in the country.

Tokayev turned to the CSTO for help when Kazakhstan was engulfed in protests. The actions began on January 2 in the city of Zhanaozen, Mangistau region, due to the increase in the price of liquefied gas from 60 to 120 tenge (approximately 21 rubles).
