Moldova - PAS abandoned the administrative-territorial reform

Moldova (bbabo.net), - The number of districts in Moldova will remain unchanged, and the administrative-territorial reform will not be carried out until the local elections in 2023. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu stated this on N4 TV channel, saying: that by the autumn of 2023 the existing administrative-territorial structure will remain in Moldova, reports omg.md

Spinu did not specify the motive for the rejection of the initiative of the administrative-territorial reform announced earlier by the ruling party PAS, stressing only that "this topic is particularly sensitive."

Earlier, in November 2021, Vladimir Bolea, a deputy of the ruling PAS party, announced the intention of the ruling party to carry out an administrative-territorial reform and abolish districts as early as 2022.

The MP said then on the TVR Moldova TV channel that this reform will be included in the agenda of the Parliament from 2022 and a number of strategies have already been developed that provide for the elimination of districts and the creation of three regions: Northern, Central and Southern.

The next local elections in Moldova will be held in 2023.
