Russia and NATO will restore the work of their missions

NATO will restore the work of its mission in Moscow, and Russia - its mission in Brussels. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg following a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, TASS reports.

Both sides will spare no effort to find ways to move forward, he said. He also clarified that Russia and the alliance agreed to hold a series of meetings to agree on mutual and verifiable restrictions on missile weapons in Europe, some of which will relate to the transparency of exercises, the level of cybersecurity, and arms control.

“NATO allies stressed that they will make every effort to find political ways to move forward. I also welcome bilateral consultations between the US and Russia, as well as tomorrow's OSCE meeting. All these are opportunities for constructive interaction in the name of European security interests, which should not be missed,” the Secretary General of the alliance stressed.

On January 12, the first meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in 2.5 years was held at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels. The meeting lasted for about four hours. The Russian interdepartmental delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. On behalf of the alliance, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg chaired the meeting.

The first round of consultations on Moscow's proposals on state security guarantees ended in Geneva on January 10. On January 13, consultations will be held at the Vienna site of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft security guarantees from the United States and NATO. In the document, the parties undertake to eliminate all existing infrastructure for the deployment of nuclear weapons outside their territory, exercise restraint in military planning and during exercises to reduce the risks of possible dangerous situations, and not take actions that affect each other's security.
