EU again extended economic sanctions against Russia

The European Union again extended economic sanctions against Russia for six months - for the fifteenth time. This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the EU Council.

"The Council has decided to extend the restrictive measures targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy for 6 months - until July 31, 2022," the statement said. The EU justified the extension of sanctions "by the progress of the implementation of the Minsk agreements." The Russian Federation does not agree with this interpretation of the West. Moscow has repeatedly said that, firstly, it is not a party to the conflict in the Donbass, and secondly, the implementation of the agreements is stalling because of the position of Kiev, which feels the support of Berlin and Paris.

Since Brussels first introduced restrictive measures against Moscow in July 2014, they have been repeatedly expanded and extended. In response, Russia imposed a ban on the import of certain food products from the European Union.
