Russia - Antonov called the condition for continuing negotiations with the US and NATO

Russia (bbabo.net), - There are no results of Russia's negotiations with the US and NATO yet, their continuation depends on the responses to Russian proposals, said Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov.

"We are expecting written responses from Washington and Brussels to our draft agreements. Based on them, we will make a decision on the advisability of further joint work," Antonov said in a comment to Neewsweek magazine. The Russian Embassy posted the text of the statement on Facebook.

Antonov stressed that Russia is ready to discuss counter proposals. "As for the situation in Ukraine, this issue was not on the agenda of Russian-American talks in Geneva, but was only mentioned as a secondary topic at consultations with NATO in Brussels," the ambassador said.

According to Antonov, after the collapse of the USSR, the security situation in Europe deteriorated sharply. The "five waves" of NATO expansion have led to the fact that today the alliance units have come close to the Russian borders. The bloc's advance to the east is one of the main threats to Russia's national security.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission pointed out that NATO's efforts aimed at the military development of the former Soviet republics are unacceptable. This is fraught with the deployment of missile systems and other destabilizing weapons systems that directly threaten Russia.

"As a result, the risks of escalation and direct military clashes in the region and beyond will multiply. Everything has its limits. We are, in fact, on the brink of an abyss," the ambassador concluded.

Recall, Russia and the United States held a meeting on strategic stability in Geneva on January 10. It was followed by a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in Brussels. And on January 13, consultations were held at the OSCE site in Vienna. The focus was on the security proposals that the Russian side presented to the US and NATO at the end of last year.
