Russia - Why St. Petersburg turned into one big ice rink

Russia (bbabo.net), - St. Petersburg knocks you down today. And it's not just the beauty of city sights. The streets of the city were covered with ice - and such that even the old-timers do not remember. Now they resemble a skating rink, and attempts to fill the sidewalks with sand fail miserably.

In the Committee for the Improvement of St. Petersburg, the incident is explained by unfavorable natural phenomena. Since the beginning of winter, 130 centimeters of rain fell on the streets of the city, and it was not possible to remove all the snow. And last week a new misfortune came - "temperature swings", when the air passes through the zero mark several times a day. As a result, puddles and ice formed on the streets.

Of course, they are trying to take snow out of the city. Thus, over 3.5 thousand cubic meters were sent to the snow melting stations last weekend. In addition, on January 15 and 16, 1.3 thousand tons of sand-salt mixture were poured into the yards alone. Sergey Kasatkin, the official representative of the City Improvement Committee, claims that all services are working in an enhanced mode. The main efforts are now thrown at cleaning sidewalks and roadways. True, in the historical center of the city it is often simply impossible to use machinery, so on narrow streets you have to use manual cleaning. According to the HeadHunter service, the demand for janitors in St. Petersburg has grown 17 times over the past week.

But this, of course, does not make it easier for the townspeople. On the eve of the St. Petersburg Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations once again warned of severe black ice. The real emergency today is in emergency rooms. Citizens enter them with bruises and fractures - everything is like in the movie: "Slipped, fell, cast." Meanwhile, in the house at 50 Marata Street, local residents did not wait for mercy from fate and began to break the ice in their yard on their own. And in the residential complex near the Moscow railway station, children began to change their shoes into skates. "But it's free and without QR codes," its residents comment, looking at how children famously cut through the yards.

All portals for appeals of citizens and groups in the social networks of municipal departments are now inundated with complaints. And how long this slippery situation will last, no one knows - utilities do not dare to give forecasts.

By the way, active residents of Kolomna - a historical district in the center of St. Petersburg - decided to deal with ice on their own. They bought 250 kilograms of sand and distributed it free of charge to the townspeople so that they sprinkled the most slippery places. The action "Propesochka" was announced in advance in social networks. Bulk material was given out to everyone in Drovyany Lane for three hours. People came with buckets and shovels, and some came in cars. Sand could be obtained not only by residents of Kolomna, but also by residents of other districts of the city. The main condition was to photograph the "sanded" streets and send them to the activists. As a result, several dozen townspeople temporarily became janitors. “It is clear that this is not a systemic solution, but it is simply impossible to walk the streets now,” the Kolomna Good Neighbor community explained.

According to the HeadHunter service, demand for janitors in St. Petersburg increased 17 times over the past week

Citizens of "Propesochka" approved. It turned out that some of them had already tried to do something with the ice. “A young guy fell in front of me on the street and broke his leg, I called an ambulance for him. Then I went to the store and bought salt, covered this area,” said one of the participants in the action. At the same time, the residents of Kolomna are still wondering: why the relevant services can’t cope with ice?

And how are you?

Now almost all the cities of the country have to fight against icing. So, in Sochi, around the clock, the liquidation of the consequences of the recent bad weather and, in particular, the same ice on the roads, continues. On Monday night alone, more than 1,000 tons of anti-icing material were used for this purpose. Even more reagents have to be used in cities in traditionally not the warmest regions - in particular, anti-icing materials are now actively used in Vladivostok, which has survived a heavy snowfall. With the help of salt, ice on the roads is eliminated in Chelyabinsk. At the same time, the head of the city said that this was the last time the use of reagents was used without warning motorists. Well, in Barnaul, one of the local residents, dissatisfied with the work of the road services, bought bags of salt and filled it with ice on the road in one of the districts of the city on his own.
