Moldova - Irina Vlah to Claus Neukirch: The most pressing problems

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Head of Gagauzia Irina Vlah met with Head of the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova Claus Neukirch. Natalia Mirimanova, Senior Political Advisor to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, took part in the discussion, gagauzinfo.md reports.

During the conversation, the details of the visit to Moldova and Gagauzia of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov were discussed.

An exchange of views took place on the evolution of relations between the authorities of the Autonomy and the political authorities of the Republic of Moldova and on the possibilities of increasing the effectiveness of communication and cooperation.

The stages of preparation for the International Conference on the Construction and Development of Autonomies, which is planned to be held in Gagauzia with the support of the OSCE, were also discussed. The purpose of the conference is to draw the attention of the international community to the problems associated with the integration and development of national minorities, and in the dialogue to find the most appropriate ways for the development of processes.

"Among the many problems faced by the Republic of Moldova in general, and Gagauzia in particular, are the outflow of young people and the decline in the birth rate. These problems are the most acute, threaten the future of the country and are the main obstacle to attracting investment in the development and modernization of the economy.

If in 2010 there were about 423 thousand young people aged 19-24 in Moldova, then, according to experts, in 2025 only 125.6 thousand people of this age will live in Moldova. We are acutely aware of this outflow. It is necessary to focus on creating employment opportunities and personal growth in Gagauzia - opportunities that attract young people from outside Moldova.

Therefore, our priority is the development of social and economic infrastructure and the creation of an ecosystem that can convince young people to connect their future with their homeland. Without youth, we will not be able to build a sustainable economy and a strong state,” said Irina Vlakh.
