Europe should not allow Russia to implement the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. This statement was made by British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss. According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, Europe needs to reduce its dependence on Russian gas, writes RIA Novosti.
"Nord Stream 2 is incompatible with Russia's aggressive actions," Truss said.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, after talks with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project would face consequences if Russia uses the energy sector as pressure on Europe.
Tino Krupalla, member of the German Bundestag Committee on International Policy, leader of the Alternative for Germany party, said that Burbock should refrain from threatening sanctions.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the members of the alliance should use different sources of gas supplies for their countries. “Allies have different points of view regarding the Nord Stream 2 project. But all allies agree on the importance of diversifying sources of energy supplies for various reasons, ”the agency quotes the Secretary General as saying.
