The Japanese authorities plan to soon extend the epidemiological restrictions to another 13 regions of the country, where the increase in the number of COVID-19 infections continues.

The corresponding decision is expected to be approved on January 19 during a meeting of the government headquarters for the fight against coronavirus, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, NHK reports. The enhanced measures will be in place for at least three weeks, from January 21 to February 13.

The restrictions will affect residents of the city of Tokyo, as well as the prefectures of Chiba, Saitama and Kanagawa adjacent to the metropolitan metropolis. In addition, special treatment will be introduced in Gunma, Niigata,.jpgu, Aichi, Mie, Kagawa, Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Nagasaki prefectures.

Earlier, anti-COVID measures were strengthened on the southernmost island of the country, Okinawa, in the prefectures of Yamaguchi and Hiroshima. Outbreaks of COVID-19 there were provoked by the US military, who neglected to comply with sanitary standards and did not undergo mandatory testing for coronavirus after arriving on Japanese territory from other locations.

The epidemiological situation in Japan continues to deteriorate. So, on January 18, over 32 thousand new cases of infection with a dangerous infection were detected throughout the island state. Such a high incidence rate was recorded there for the first time during the pandemic. At the same time, the coronavirus is spreading at the highest speed in the city of Tokyo and the large metropolis of Osaka. For example, on January 19, more than 7 thousand new patients with COVID-19 were recorded in the capital metropolis of the country. Prior to this, the daily increase there did not exceed the mark of 6 thousand people.
